PRA: No Kachi Receipts at Hotels, Cafes – Face 1 Month Seal

PRA Warns Hotels, Cafes, Restaurants: No More ‘Kachi Receipts’, Issue Official Invoices or Face Closure

Punjab Revenue Authority launches crackdown on tax evasion; businesses face fines, 1-month seal for not issuing ‘pakki receipts’

LAHORE: The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has launched a strict enforcement drive against tax evasion in the hospitality sector, warning hotels, coffee shops, and restaurants to stop issuing informal “kachi receipts” to customers.

Under the new directive, all such businesses must provide official, computerized “pakki receipts” for every transaction to ensure proper sales tax collection.

“Manipulation in tax payments will not be tolerated,” a PRA spokesperson said. “Any outlet found issuing kachi receipts or failing to provide a proper invoice will face heavy fines and the business can be sealed for up to one month.”

The authority said the move aims to curb tax fraud and bring more businesses into the documented economy. Inspection teams have been deployed across Punjab to conduct surprise checks.

Customers are also being urged to demand official receipts and can report non-compliance to PRA.

The crackdown is part of Punjab’s broader drive to improve tax compliance in the services sector.
