US Recalls Last Aircraft Carrier from Asia: USS Abraham Lincoln Withdrawn Amid Rising Focus on Iran

Deployment shift signals potential change in US military strategy as tensions grow in Middle East

WASHINGTON: The United States has recalled its last deployed aircraft carrier from Asia, the USS Abraham Lincoln, marking a significant shift in American naval presence in the Indo-Pacific.

The USS Abraham Lincoln had departed California in November last year for the South China Sea region. Its withdrawal means no US aircraft carriers are currently deployed in Asia.

US officials have not formally linked the move to a specific operation. However, analysts view the carrier’s return as part of growing American focus on Iran and a possible recalibration of military strategy in the Middle East.

The redeployment comes amid heightened tensions in the Persian Gulf and renewed speculation over US force posture in the region. The Pentagon has not disclosed where the USS Abraham Lincoln will be reassigned next.

The move reduces US carrier presence in the Indo-Pacific at a time of continued Chinese naval activity in the South China Sea, raising questions about Washington’s strategic priorities.

This is the first time in recent years that the US has had no carrier strike group operating in the Asian theater.
