ISLAMABAD: (Dailytoday Network) Iran is rapidly constructing a suspected nuclear facility buried deep inside a granite mountain near Natanz, according to new satellite imagery analyzed in 2026.
The site, dubbed “Pickaxe Mountain” by analysts, has shown a significant construction surge this year. Experts believe the facility is designed to shelter uranium centrifuges and enrichment work beyond the reach of current U.S. bunker-busting munitions.
Satellite images reveal extensive tunneling and infrastructure development at the mountain site, located close to Iran’s existing Natanz nuclear enrichment facility.
Security analysts say the depth and granite shielding of the new site would make it extremely difficult to target with conventional weapons, raising concerns about Tehran’s nuclear ambitions.
The development comes amid heightened tensions over Iran’s nuclear program and ongoing international negotiations.
Western officials have not yet commented on the latest satellite findings.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has previously expressed concerns over undeclared nuclear sites in Iran.
