WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has warned that Washington is “prepared to do another” military strike against Iran “anytime we want” following what he called a “very heavy attack” overnight.
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Wednesday, Trump said the renewed US campaign against Iran would not continue for “too long”【1751432090945011560†L8-L9】.
According to Trump, US forces targeted newly rebuilt Iranian radar and missile systems along the Strait of Hormuz【1751432090945011560†L10-L11】. “We took out all of the new equipment that they tried to build along the Strait of Hormuz – some defensive, some offensive,” Trump said【1751432090945011560†L12-L13】.
“It was a very heavy attack last night, and we’re prepared to do another one anytime we want,” Trump continued, adding that the US “blew up much more than their radars” in Monday night’s strikes【1751432090945011560†L88-L89】.
The latest escalation comes after Iran retaliated with ballistic missiles toward Jordan and drones toward Bahrain and Kuwait, following US strikes on Tuesday【1751432090945011560†L20-L21】. Trump warned on Truth Social that if Iran retaliates, “they will be hit again at a much harder and higher level”【1751432090945011560†L26-L27】.
Iranian state media reported that 18 people were killed and 108 wounded in US attacks across multiple provinces overnight【1751432090945011560†L30-L31】.
The US military also escorted 40 commercial vessels carrying 18 million barrels of oil through the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, marking a wartime high【1751432090945011560†L150-L152】.
Trump dismissed the possibility of nuclear weapons, saying there was “no reason” to use them because Iran was already “totally defeated militarily”【1751432090945011560†L76-L77】.
