ISLAMABAD, Aug 18, 2026 – DailyToday

The PML-N government’s opposition to former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s hospital transfer has now become part of the judicial record.

According to court documents, the Additional Attorney General told the Supreme Court that the petition for Imran Khan’s hospital transfer is “not maintainable” and the petitioner is “not entitled to any relief.”

The government argued that even the request itself should not be heard.

However, the Supreme Court rejected the government’s stance. In its written order, the court said: “We are mindful of the constitutional and legal obligation of the State, and consequently of the Court, to safeguard the life, health, dignity and security of persons in custody.”

The court added that a prisoner does not lose the right to humane treatment and necessary medical care due to incarceration.

The court noted that Imran Khan’s medical reports prima facie indicate deterioration in his health. As an interim measure, the court ordered appropriate arrangements for his medical examination and treatment.

Ironically, it was Imran Khan’s government that had allowed convicted former PM Nawaz Sharif to go abroad for medical treatment. Now the PML-N government is opposing similar medical relief for Imran Khan.

The question of maintainability will be examined on the next hearing date.
